IMOLITES, COVID-19 Is Now In Our State - By Dr. Achigbu Kingsley

Image
Good morning Management and Staff of our dear Centre. There is a need to address us this morning on the events of the past 24hours. We woke up in the early hours of yesterday 25th April, 2020 to the  obvious reality that COVID-19 is no respecter of physical boundaries as the first positive and confirmed case was identified in Owerri, Imo state.

He is a 45year old man who lives and works in Owerri and is not a staff of the Centre as may be widely speculated. He was promptly admitted into the Isolation facility. He is presently not showing symptoms and is on appropriate management based on the NCDC guidelines. The facility is equipped to handle his case.

The essence of this briefing is for us to show more vigilance as well as fully abide by recommended preventive measures such as; frequent hand washing with soap and water,  use of alcohol based sanitizers, maintaining appropriate social distancing, avoidance of crowding, consistent wearing of face masks which we have provided for staff…

COVID-19: Two Patients Flee After Testing Positive in Borno

Officials have claimed that A man and woman in Borno State are currently on the run after they had tested positive for COVID-19.

The Borno commissioner of health, Salisu Kwayabura, disclosed this information to journalists at the daily briefing of the Committee on COVID-19.

He said, “two patients, Abbas Kaka Hassan, a 24-year-old male and Hauwa Mohammed, 42-year-old female, are on the run after testing positive to COVID-19 at the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital in the metropolis.”

He said the male is from Layin tanki suburbs in Gwange II ward, while the woman lives in the Shuwari ward.

It was gathered that the male patient could earlier not be reached by the state COVID-19 response team even after his blood sample was collected. He later reportedly switched off his phone.

“When samples of patients with contacts to index cases are collected, they are normally advised to go on self-isolation,” the health commissioner said.

“They give their contacts so they can be reached when…

We were on our way to containing the virus, in spite of the galloping figures in other states. “However, it is saddening that we have recorded 12 new cases in the State, including three of our health workers with two fatalities, both of whom were males with underlying health conditions”.
Speaking more about the locations of the fresh confirmed cases, Oyetola said that the cases emerged from Ede, Irewole, Ejig…

The Truth About COVID-19 in Nigeria - By Ebun Adegboruwa, SAN

Image
By Ebun Adegboruwa, SAN
Yesterday, a friend called me that he was having difficulty breathing, he’s been weak and has pains in the heart.

I immediately told him to race to Landmark isolation Centre in Oniru, Victoria Island, Lagos. He went there straight but was turned back, as he was told that it’s only meant for those who have tested positive already. I encouraged him to wait till day break so he could go to Yaba, the main COVID 19 center in Lagos.

On reaching out to Yaba, he was told to describe his symptoms on record by way of sms and send it. In response, he was told that he could not be tested this week again as they are already booked for this week. He will be programmed for next week for his test. So, what happens to him between now and next week?

A similar situation was reported in Ajah early this week. They called NCDC in Lagos and they kept postponing the test. By the time NCDC officers got to Ajah the man had died and the family resisted them from carrying the corpse.

So,…

Tinubu Mourns Late Aide, says; Lateef Raheem, My Extraordinary Aide

Image
A good and decent man has gone. My Chief Security Officer, Alhaji Lateef Raheem, has passed and his death cuts severely. Lateef reported for work on Monday. Feeling a bit under the weather, he went home to rest. We spoke on Wednesday by phone. He was in fine spirits and was looking forward to resuming work. I felt nothing but profound shock, and then the emptiness of deep loss when I was awakened early Friday that my most trusted security aide had died and that I would never see him again. I did not know the Wednesday conversation would be our last. The pain of his loss is acute.

Lateef passed away during the early morning of Friday, April 25. He was buried later that day in accordance with Muslim rites. He was 51. His unexpected death apparently was due to complications from diabetes and high blood pressure. Lateef was a person of strong and resilient character. He never sought special treatment or favor despite his years of loyal and excellent service to me. He never took his work …
