Ekiti Lawyers Protest Colleagues' Death
Lawyers in Ekiti Staye numbering about a hundred under the aegis of the Nigerian Bar Association yesterday in Ado Ekiti, Ekiti State staged a peaceful protest from the high court at Fajuyi to the Ewi's palace over the death of their colleagues, Messers Adeola Adebayo and Adeola Okeya, both from Emure Ekiti.
The lawyers who were surrounded with a team of police escort, carried placards with various inscriptions such as: Security of lives and properties is primary . Give us security. Save our souls. Adeola Okeya: NBA says no to kidnapping amongst others .
The lawyers appeared in black uniform singing solidarity song led by the lkole-Ekiti Chairman, Barrister Ibrahim Olarewaju in an emotional voice addressed the Ewi of Ado Ekiti, Oba Rufus Adejugbe together with his Chiefs and the crowd at the palace. Barrister Ibrahim Olarewaju explain ed that late Adeola Adebayo was until his death the secretary of the NBA, Emure branch was kidnapped on the 13th of November, 2018 in Emure.Having received his kidnapped hint, they formed a search team together with the police to hunt for him.
According to Ibrahim Olarewaju, the kidnappers demanded for 100m random but they were able to raise 2m which they paid through a source to the kidnappers.
Olarewaju further stressed that they latter got wind of the death of Adebayo through the police that a dead body had been found at Igbara-Ekiti on Friday, the 30th of November, 2018 and was buried over the weekend.
However, Olarewaju hinted that the secretary of Ikole branch of the association, Adeola Okeya was also murdered by suspected vigilante group after the call to bar ceremony in Abuja over the weekend. He called on the security agencies together with the traditional rollers to come to their aid and handed a petition to the Oba in council.
Receiving the petition on behalf of the Ewi of Ado-Ekiti, Oba Rufus Adejugbe, Chief F A Abe, the Ejigbo of Ado-Ekiti surrounded with other chiefs commiserated with the lawyers over the death of their colleagues and promised to deliver the message to Ewi ofAdo-Ekiti and asked them to come back to the palace on Friday, the 7th of December, 2018 by 11am.
At the end of the peaceful protest while asked about the role of the police in the course of the kidnapped incidence, the Ikole-Ekiti branch chairman of the NBA Ibrahim Olarewaju appreciated the efforts of the police but expected them to have done more and that would have saved the life of their departed colleague from the den of the kidnappers.
