State Assembly Hopeful, Jamiu Gets Irepodun/Ifelodun People's Backing
The resirents of Irepodun/Ifelodun Local Government Area of Ekiti State have declared their support for the All Progressives Congress (APC) House of Assembly candidate, Mr Hakeem Jamiu.
Jamiu, who is a former Senior Special Assistant on Research and Documentation to the Governor-elect, Dr Kayode Fayemi, got the backing of the people during his thank-you/campaign visits to all communities in the local government.
This came following the consensus approval of his candidature to contest the February 2019 general election.
He was led by APC leaders in his Igbemo-Ekiti country home in visits to Afao-Ekiti, Are-Ekiti, Iworoko-Ekiti, Esure-Ekiti, Eyio-Ekiti, Awo-Ekiti and Iropora-Ekiti with hundreds of supporters to express gratitude to APC members for unanimously picking him as the consensus candidate for the parliamentary election.
In all the communities visited, Jamiu pledged to be a faithful representative of the constituency in the assembly, even as he Urged the people to remain committed to the ideals of APC for the good of the people.
Jamiu, who was led by Igbemo-Ekiti Ward Chairman, Peter Akinsola, round all the wards during the visits, said the in-coming administration of Dr Fayemi is committed to the welfare of Ekiti people,including the resuscitation of social security for the elderly and other empowerment schemes of Fayemi's administration between 2010 and 2014.
Speaking separately, Afao Ward Chairman, Akinyemi Ojo; a retired Army Col Tunde Oluwayose and party leader, Tope Omosilade, promised the support of the people for Jamiu. They urged him to be good ambassador of the people. They berated Fayose who is from that town for abandoning them in the last four years.
They asked the candidate to pay attention to Afao-Igbemo road, health facilities, especially for child care, while also urging him to pay attention to youths employment.
A party leader, Lawrence Olotu, prayed for the success of the Assembly candidate. He expressed confidence in the candidate, who he said comes from a family with records of performance while former Assembly member, Ayodeji Odu, urged members to support Jamiu's aspiration to provide a caring leadership.
In Are-Ekiti, APC leaders prayed for Jamiu's success at poll and urged him to remember the town for good.
Former spokesman of APC, Taiwo Olatunbosun, urged members to support Jamiu in his election, saying that the candidate is a reliable man who will fulfil his promises to the people.
Olatunbosun and Odu, who are from the same Igbemo-Ekiti as Jamiu, presented Jamiu to Are-Ekiti leaders and members, including Sina Ogunleye, who pledged support for the APC candidate.
Immediate past Chairman of Alimosho Local Government in Lagos State, Oluwasola Adekunle, said Jamiu's loyalty to the party earned him the ticket, even as he urged other members to always be loyal to their party and leaders.
He urged Jamiu to make service to the people his watchword, even as he assured that Are-Ekiti people would vote for the APC candidate in the Assembly election.
At Iworoko-Ekiti, leaders, including former Irepoduni/Ifelodun Chairman, Kayode Ojo, urged support for Jamiu to ensure his success at poll.
Ojo also urged voters to massively vote for all APC candidates in the general elections to enable the town qualify for positions in government.
He noted that three aspirants from Iworoko-Ekiti stepped down for Jamiu and called on the Governor-elect, Dr Kayode Fayemi, to compensate the town with appointments.
Jamiu was warmly received in Esure-Ekiti by a group of dancing women and party supporters.
The immediate past Chairman of Esure Ward, Chief Lawrence Ayeni, who happens to be Jamiu's father- in-law, thanked members for the warm reception.
He said Jamiu was a symbol of the party and described him as a promise keeper who will prove a good ambassador as the representative of the people.
At Eyio, amid songs and praises, leaders endorsed Jamiu as the candidate of APC. They attested to his love for the people of the constituency. They pleaded with the assembly candidate to lend support in paying government's attention to the bad conditions of roads in the axis for immediate repair.
It was the same warm reception at Iropora-Ekiti where members expressed satisfaction in the capability of the candidate to represent them in the Assembly.
An APC leader, Chief Anifowose, recalled how Jamiu assisted his son to secure a job.
Jamiu, who was accompanied during the visits by friends and associates, including Wole Olujobi, thanked members for their support and urged members to vote for all the candidates of the party in the 2019 general elections.
At Awo-Ekiti where the visits terminated, Jamiu said he was at home where he started his secondary education.
He said as the "son of the soil", he would do everything within his powers to assist in the development of the town.
