NUJ Elects New President

The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has elected This Day Newspapers Southeast Bureau Chief, Mr.Izeguzo Chris as the new president of the Nigeria Union of Journalists.

In the keenly contested election, Mr. Izeguso polled  346 votes to defeat other six contestants including the immediate past president Mr Waheed Odusile who gathered 329 votes.

According to the result as announced by the returning officer, Benson Upah,  other contestants, Dele Atunbi of Nigeria Television Authourity  polled 101 votes, Abiodun Olalere 56 votes, Seiyefa Uzaka a Director with the Bayelsa state ministry of information , 30 votes, Jacob Edi polled  16  votes, Otunba Mike Aladenika 8 votes.

In his acceptance speech, Mr Chris promised to take the union to a greater height through inclusive administration and solicited the cooperation of all members for a successful tenure.

Mr  Cosmas Oni was returned as the Vice president of the South west zone with 145 votes to defeat Segun. Adeyemo who scores 58 votes.

Meanwhile waheed odusile and Dele Atunbi have already congratulated the winner, Mr Isiguzo Christopher.
