Orin-Odo Obaship Tussle: Fayose Orders Kingmakers' Arrest...CP Rejects Order...Princes, Kingmakers Flee Town
Uncontrollable crisis seems to be looming in Orin-Odo, a community within Ikole Local Government as the Governor of Ekiti State, Mr Ayodele Fayose has resolved to clamp down on the princes and kingmakers of the town for refusing to welcome his stooge to the palace following the installation of a monarch considered to be kangaroo by the entire community.
Fountain Newsbreaker, in our November 2017 edition, had published how the allegedly imposed Oba was installed right inside the governor’s office contrary to the tradition of the town and how he was prevented from entering the palace by the people of the town. When our reporter called the Oba he promised to call back but repeated call to him thereafter was ignored.
As a follow up to the peace move by the Elekole of Ikole, Oba Ajibade Fasiku last year, the bureau of Chieftaincy affairs also invited the stakeholders to the government house but the disgruntled royal family members replied that they were not prepared to meet with the governor who they accused of partiality.
This did not go down well with the governor who, on sighting the Princes at the Osuntokun Hall on Tuesday March 6, 2018, became angry and instantly ordered for their arrest without allowing them to utter a word. “I learnt you people said you didn’t want to hold meeting with me, right?” the governor was said to have retorted inviting the Commissioner of Police to come and lock them up and take them to court straight for prosecution.
The people of Orin Odo Ekiti are however seem to be poised in engaging the Governor in a fight to finish over his intention to install his candidate as the paramount ruler of the town as they appeared unfretted even as the governor issued series of threat.
Things took a turn for the worse in the meeting which was called by the Director of Bureau and chieftaincy affairs Mr Owotehinse at the instance of the governor. The meeting which took place at the Osuntokun hall was attended by the Princes, Chiefs with the governor in attendance.
The governor however met with the shock of his life when the Chiefs, Princes and kingmakers made it clear that they won’t have anything to do with imposed Oba except the rightful heir apparent from the Osanimo family was enthroned. This, they said, informed the reason why the two kingmakers refused not to be in that meeting.
This was said to have annoyed the governor who reportedly ordered the commissioner of police to arrest Chief Awosemo and High Chief Olatawura who were accused by the governor of authorizing a press release on behalf of the town not to honour his invitation. The Police chief however declined the order on the ground that this would lead to a communal clash.
It took the intervention of the second in command of the town a very respectable high chief, an ally of the governor, who knelt down in front of Governor Fayose to plead for the Chiefs citing traditional consequences and possible crisis which may erupt after such arrests. Meanwhile the princes and other chiefs have reportedly fled the community over the continual threat by the state government but the youth insisted the governor’s stooge had no place in the palace.
