Road Dualization: Olukere Swallows Pride, Begs Govr

As opposed to his earlier stance to prevent the State Government from demolishing a shrine which was to stand as stumbling block against the road dualization going in Ikere Ekiti, the Olukere of Ikere, Oba Ganiyu Obasanyin, has made a u-turn, apologizing to Governor Ayodele Fayose over his people’s behavior to him.

The Olukere had earlier vowed to lay down his life in protecting the culture of the town, an shrine which fell within the marked area for demolition to give way for the road construction going on in the town. It was however a dramatic twist of event when the governor alleged that the Olukere had earlier demanded for a sum of one million Naira for the idol to be relocated to another place.

Though the Olukere denied the allegation, that the governor to present the evidence of the receipt of payment, but a week he tendered an apology in writing and verbally on the state owned television.

On the matter, the governor said during a phone-in programme tagged “Mr Governor Explains” that“I met with Ogoga and Olukere before the dualisation of Ikere started and we talked about ancient deities that will be affected by the construction.  Olukere told me the movement of the deities will cost #1m, I paid and he signed on 11th January, 2017.

“Three days ago, I heard Olukere started making troubles again that work will not continue on that road, he said he wanted to fight me. This morning he led people to block Akure road. They went to some people’s homes and machete them but as the leader of the state we'll tow the path of diplomacy, force will be the last option” the governor said.

All efforts made by Fountain Newsbreaker to speak with OIukere failed as he continually gave excuses of being on the road each time his telephone rang until he was seen on the screen reading a prepared script to apologize to the governor and thanking him for the love he had for Ikere Ekiti.  He then promised to continue “to be good a ambassadors of the Governor”
